The Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC) is seeking interested individuals to join its dynamic team working to advance biological engineering to address national and global needs! EBRC is structured as a public-private partnership with support from government grants and membership fees from partner organizations. The incumbent will join a small team of three in Emeryville, CA led by the Executive Director and working with a large community of academics, companies, and government agencies. DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH ROADMAPPING
The Director for Research Roadmapping is responsible for EBRC’s annual engineering biology research roadmapping process. This position will conduct public policy (science policy) research related to the advancement of the field of synthetic biology. Working with EBRC’s academic and institutional membership, the director will work to develop a roadmap to help address technical challenges in the context of national and global needs. Working with EBRC’s Executive Director and other leadership, the Roadmapping Director will develop an annual roadmapping process including mechanisms for ongoing communication with the broader community. The director will be responsible for implementing the roadmapping process and for disseminating the resulting roadmap broadly to both the engineering biology and broader communities. They will be the lead author on the final publication. The EBRC roadmapping process is expected to incorporate input from other EBRC activities including retreats, ad hoc workshops, and policy engagement activities.

SCIENCE POLICY POSTDOCS
EBRC will periodically host postdoctoral associates who are interested in science policy. Science policy postdocs in EBRC will leverage their technical backgrounds to support EBRC programs at the interface of science and public policy. They will work with the Executive Director, Director for Research Roadmapping, and EBRC membership to advance the field of engineering biology. Postdocs will work with the Executive Director to develop projects consistent with EBRC’s mission and strategic goals. In addition to specific focus areas, all postdocs will contribute to the EBRC research roadmap. Applicants should have a strong technical background and interest in science policy in synthetic biology. Over time, EBRC anticipates programs in the following areas: Technical Research Roadmapping, Synthetic Biology & National Security, Policy (including regulation), Education, and Public Engagement.
