Dear Colleague,

This is Professor Capelo and I hope this email finds you well.

We are organizing the Bioscope Winter School in February-March 2018, in Caparica (Lisbon, Portugal), as follows:

26th – 28th February 2018

IX Hands-on Course in Ultrafast Sample Treatment for Proteomics

05th March – 07th March 2018

VIII Hands-on Course in Sample Preparation Using Nanoparticles for Proteomics

450 euros each course, 10% discount for groups of 3 people or 20% discount for groups of four or more people,

The first phase is the IX hands on course in ultrafast sample treatment for proteomics, that will take place days 26 to 28 of February, and it will focus in the ultrafast sample treatment for proteomics using ultrasound, which allows to digest complex proteomes for mass spectrometry (serum, plasma, cells) in just 5 min, with the possibility of handling 300 samples at the same time. The students learn how to handle (i) proteins separated using 1D or 2D gel electrophoresis or (ii) complex proteomes in liquid solution. The course is complemented with the learning of the basics in mass spectrometry and with the learning of the mass up program, used to classify samples with statistics (clustering and PCA) using mass spectrometry-based data.

The second phase is the VIII hands on course in sample preparation using nanoparticles for proteomics, that will take place days 5 to 7 of March 2018, and it will focus in the use of nanoparticles in proteomics to selectively reduce the complexity of complex proteomes for biomarker discovery. The students learn to synthetize gold nanoparticles and how to use them to reduce the complexity of serum samples to classify samples belonging to different groups, such as disease of interest, control disease, and healthy group.

The maximum number of students per course is 15 and both courses are mainly hands-on, with a little theory (the basics, 1h per day) in the morning and then it follows the work in the laboratory (up to 7 hours).

The courses are independent but can be done together as well.

A presentation of posters is hold, where the students present their lines of research (master, thesis). A certificate of course participation and poster presentation is given at the end of the course.

If you have any doubt please do not hesitate in contacting me at your earliest convenience: 00 351 919404933, London time.

I would like to friendly ask you to distribute this email between your master, PhD students and colleagues.
