The Rosenman Institute provides startups with expertise and mentorship from stakeholders across the healthcare industry. We’re inviting 40 startups to pitch our panel of judges. We’ll select 10 as the 2017 Rosenman Innovators. If selected, you will

Receive coaching in communications & business strategy
Present to a private group of investors and industry partners
Showcase your startup at the Rosenman Symposium on June 21
Be eligible to be chosen to receive cash prizes and/or a wide range of in-kind services valued at $250k

Who Can Apply?

Early-stage medtech companies (up to and including Series A investment) based in California or one of its senior leadership is based in California. No university affiliation is required.

What Are the Key Dates?

May 2: Deadline to apply
May 10: First round of selection: qualified startups notified
May 23 and 24: Startups present to judging panel
May 25: Startups selected as Rosenman Innovators notified
June 21: Morning: Innovators pitch investors & partners in private session. Afternoon: Innovators pitch public audience at Rosenman Symposium

Cash Prizes

A participating investor is awarding $30k in prize money to one or two Rosenman Innovators, either as a single prize or two $15k prizes.

How Can I Win In-Kind Services?

Our participating partners will choose the recipients of their services from among the 10 Rosenman Innovators. Criteria include technology, market potential, and how much a startup would benefit from a particular service. Visit the 2017 Innovators Services page on the Rosenman website for full details.

In-Kind Services Available

BioSurg

The BioSurg Research Team will work with the Investigator to develop the IACUC protocol and any study-specific forms. Plus, two half-days (or one full day) in the Cath Lab or OR for a surgical or interventional non-GLP acute procedure to evaluate the functional performance or tolerability of the device, drug, or combination product. (Two awards available)

IO LifeScience will provide 100 hours of design and engineering consultation, which may include a prototype (CAD, video, animation, user experience, etc.) and engineering support (design & development, human factors engineering, verification, validation, transfer to manufacturing etc.). IO LifeScience will work with the team over the next year. (One award available)

 

NextFlex, a manufacturing institute in San Jose focusing on flexible hybrid electronics, will provide prototyping and pilot manufacturing services to enable Rosenman Innovators to convert devices from rigid to flexible circuits. (Two awards available)

 

Propel(x) is an investment marketplace where investors fund STEM startups. All 10 Rosenman Innovators will be specially showcased on the Propel(x) platform, waiving the requirement for a lead investor. For Innovators seeking financing, Propel(x) will conduct marketing campaigns with the goal of securing investments. (10 awards available)

 

ProtoQuick Inc. is pleased to provide 100 hours of shop time to support one Rosenman Innovator team in their design, prototyping, and production phases. Services can include engineering consultation; CNC and manual machining; conventional and wire EDM; and injection molding. (One award available)

 

Whipsaw will provide the selected team with 100 hours of product design and engineering consultation. Expertise will be custom-tailored and may include user experience design, ergonomics development, mechanical engineering, materials & manufacturing processes development, and Design for Manufacturing services. (One award available)
