Special seminar today 14:00 meeting room 2nd floor

Today we visit the Dr. Juan Pablo Castillo, postdoc at the University of Berkeley, who will give an informal seminar on his work in molecular motors

See you on the second floor of the building for research at 14:00

"STUDYING A MOLECULAR MOTOR, STEP BY STEP"

In the Bacteriophage phi29 virus genomic DNA is packaged within the Capsid by a powerful molecular motor. This engine consists of a ring of ATPases that coupled the hydrolysis of ATP with the translocation of DNA. Using optical tweezers, it is possible to study the trajectory of the process of packing only a virus at the same time. How coordinate the subunits of the ring during the cycle mecano-quimico? Who determines the size of the step of the motor? They are some of the questions that will be addressed in the seminar.
The seminar will be held in the building of centres of research President Eduardo Morales Santos, University of Santiago, Chile. Avenida Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 3363
