Ilona Concha becomes the first woman to achieve the status of Professor Emeritus in the Uach

Professor Emeritus or Professor Emeritus may hold for life the possibility of developing academic activities at the Universidad Austral de Chile.

The Academic Council of the Universidad Austral de Chile decreed, by unanimous agreement of its members present, the appointment of Dr. Ilona Concha, academic and researcher of the Faculty of Sciences as Professor Emeritus, becoming the first women to achieve this honorary status at UACh.

"Whether I'm the first or not, it doesn't matter. I am happy and very grateful for this distinction. This distinction is not only for me, but is a recognition to all the people I worked with and interacted with, during these years at UACh and beyond. My appreciation and appreciation includes my family, undergraduate and graduate students, thesisis, colleagues, administrators of this university, from other national and foreign universities. In parentheses, it seems like a family tradition, because my father is also professor emeritus but of the University of Concepción as well as my husband Juan Carlos Slebe here at the Uach," Concha said.

At the time of his appointment he was in Malaysia working as part of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), which he has been a member of since 2018.

According to the UACh Academic DistinctionS Regulations, the appointment of Professor Emeritus or Professor Emeritus is an honorary academic distinction that may be credited by a professor or a full professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile who has distinguished himself in the exercise of his duties for his outstanding university work.

Professor Emeritus or Professor Emeritus may, at the request of the respective Macrounidad, maintain for life the possibility of carrying out academic activities at the Universidad Austral de Chile, being able to retain the rights and benefits not linked to the contract of employment.
