In memoriam: PhD candidate ALEJANDRA ELIZABETH PALMA CHÁVEZ

One month after the femicide of the candidate for Doctor in Biological Sciences of the University of Concepción we want to honor her short but intense career in science. Alejandra Palma was a person who loved to do science and continually strived to improve. He graduated in Biochemistry in 2014 at USS Concepción headquarters. In 2016 he entered the master's degree in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics, in his Master's thesis he studied the expression and function of the DAGLα enzyme in the hypothalamus, thesis co-directed by Dr. Fernando Sepúlveda and Dr. MA García-Robles. In it he studied the expression and function of the enzyme DAGLα in the hypothalamus, his results were published inFrontier in Endocrinologydoi.org/10.3389/fendo.2019.00647. In 2020 he entered the doctorate in biological sciences obtaining ANID scholarship from the first year. In 2022 he completed an international specialization course entitled IBRO-LARC school on neurotransmitter transporter: structure and function in Mexico City, that same year he defended his doctoral project entitled "Effect of the diet rich in fructose on neuroinflammation and hypothalamic neurogenesis", co-directed by Dr. Roberto Elizondo and M.A García-Robles. On March 8, 2023, while we were claiming women's rights, this talented young woman was murdered by her partner depriving us of being able to continue observing and sharing Alejandra's formative, personal and family path.

We regret the context of femicidal violence in which Alejandra's death occurs, we urge to denounce these forms of violence, promoting better defense mechanisms against gender violence.

Here at the SBCCH Annual Meeting, 2022. Her friends, colleagues, laboratory colleagues and professors will remember her forever for her great joy, her excellent scientific abilities and her great companionship. Fly high dear Alejandra
