Start of series of talks open "dialogue of science, politics and society: the challenge of science in Chile"
On Thursday, March 30, the cycle of open talks for the general and elective general public for students of the University of Chile was held, "Dialogues of Science, Politics and Society: the challenge of science in Chile". Its first session addressed the importance of the development of science in the country, seen from different edges, which consisted of: Gonzalo Rivas (president of the National Council for Innovation for Development (CNID), Dr. Andrés Couve ( Academic University of Chile), Dr. Carolina Gainza (Sociologist, UDP academic) and the senator and member of the Commission on Future, Science and Technology Challenges Dr. Gido Girardi.
This project was created on the basis of the concern and will of a team of postgraduate students within the framework of the Program called "Stimulus for Academic Projects of Postgraduate Students" of the Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs of the University of Chile with the collaboration of Prof. Dr. Fernando Valiente, an academic at the Faculty of Medicine.
The objective is to complement the training of the students of the University, beyond the theoretical and technical knowledge, promoting the capacities of active and reflective critical analysis in the contingent topics of Science and Society in our country.
The following sessions will cover topics such as the analysis of the current Chilean science model, open accesses, brain drain among other topics of national contingency. This will be held every Thursday from 18.00 to 19.30 hrs in the magna classroom of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the University of Chile.
