Museum of the education opens shows about women in the science
Through 13 panels, with images, texts and questions, seeks to show the intricate spaces that had to travel the women at the end of the 19th century and early 20th dreamed of approaching the world of science.
On March 9, 12:00 hours, the Gabriela Mistral education Museum will open shows that talks about the beginnings of female science education in Chile.
Since its reopening in 2006, this Museum (located in Chacabuco street 365, metro Quinta Normal) has incorporated the gender perspective in your daily work, from the story and the guided visits to the workshops carried out with early childhood.
Added to this wide range of activities is the research of different topics linked to the women and education in Chile. Thus was born the book "feeling in search of Science: beginning of female science education in Chile (1870-1930)", published in 2015 by the Director of the Museum, María Isabel Orellana.
Two years later, this research takes form of temporary exhibition. Through 13 panels, with images, texts and questions, seeks to show the intricate spaces that had to travel the women at the end of the 19th century and early 20th dreamed of approaching the world of science.
"This transition was not easy and the objective of this exhibition is to promote other forms of reflection on the role of women and science education", according to a museum statement.
"Between the decades of 1870 and 1930, making scientific was reserved exclusively to men. Women accounted for much of the population for a kind of interdicted which should protect themselves and the science. The scientific discourse to which appeal is based on the archetype of the man white, coming from a social segment specific and holder of certain cultural and social capital", he added.
The exhibition will be in the room Eloísa Díaz Museum until May 9 and will be open from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 17:00 hours and days Saturday, from 10:00 to 15:30. The entrance to the Museum is free and requires no registration.
