Dear IUBMB Adhering Body Representatives:
I am delighted to report that the Uruguayan Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (SBBM) has applied to upgrade from Associate Adhering Body to Adhering Body of the International Union of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (IUBMB).
The SBBM comprises a significant portion of the Uruguayan scientific community. Its main aim is to promote the dissemination, exchange and training of researchers related to the disciplines of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as its dissemination at the level of the middle school and society as a whole, so that they can be incorporated and adopted as elements of development and innovation.
As a proposed Adhering Body, the SBBM considers being a member of the IUBMB will be extremely beneficial for their scientific community. The Society is applying for admission in Group IA that would be appropriate for a country the size of Uruguay.
The following SBBM committee for international relations in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has been proposed: Drs. Marcelo Rodríguez Piñón (marodri@fvet.edu.uy), Pablo Smircich (psmircich@fcien.edu.uy) and Rosana Rodríguez-Casuriaga (r.rodriguezcasuriaga@gmail.com ).
This application has been unanimously and enthusiastically supported by the IUBMB Executive Committee and it was recognized that the Uruguayan Society has been a significant contributor to the IUBMB for several years and now wishes to play a more active role in the Union and in support of its activities.
In accordance with Statute 2.11 (http://iubmb.org/guidelines-and-statutes/statutes-and-by-laws/ ), the next step in the process is to request the approval of the IUBMB Adhering Bodies for this change In status. If no opposition is received within 4 months of the date of this message, the SBBM will be considered an Adhering Body of the IUBMB and this will be proposed for ratification at the next General Assembly of the IUBMB, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Seoul, Korea, during the next IUBMB Congress.
