"Héctor Alejandro Venegas Esparza", by bioprocess biologist Felipe Cabezas, PUC.

Biochemist of the University of Concepción, his regional training set fire the personal and professional development of Alexander, highlighting his personal and professional qualities that he made available in his research work, was always very close to his undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as with his colleagues and authorities and I carry at all times and with great pride the values delivered by the University of Concepción. Early on, he felt the need to develop frontier and applied research so in the 1970s he traveled to Santiago to join the largest universities to develop his doctoral studies in Molecular Biology, generating links in both institutions. The impact of his studies led him to carry out his doctoral studies in California where together with a group of Chilean researchers converged and laid the foundations of Biotechnology in Chile, a legacy that remains to this day. He consolidated his research and professional work at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile where he focused on the areas of molecular genetics and biomedicine.

Today much is talked about in our country about the value of innovation and entrepreneurship for processes and research and the value that this has for the accreditation processes of Universities, being a fundamental part of the new curriculums of training of scientific careers and has become more relevant the development of patents, spinoff's and applied research already being in the unconscious of the new scientific generations.

Alejandro laid the foundations for Biotech Innovation and Entrepreneurship and technological scientifically based in Chile. Early on, he visualized the importance of conducting a research stay at a biotech company in California Usa to strengthen its innovation capabilities, co-founded Chile's first biotechnology company, BiosChile, published the first biological sciences patents of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, developed applied research projects at all times, generating different industrial applicability products. In this sense, and despite his age, he was always an example to the new generations about the new trends of applied research, where many of his research students have worked in companies based on technological scientific or have focused their careers in areas of business and commercial management, who always recognized him as an excellent teacher.

In his last academic period he focused his efforts on the development of applied research in biomedicine where he developed important links with academics in the area of health and strong relationships with international peers, his last house being Diego Portales University where he continued to develop his research activities. Alexander always maintained a very narrow but very close circle, many accompanied him until the last moment and his historical circle of students, who always kept in touch with him, planted a forest in his honor as he always wanted, because if of something he was grateful, it was his family and the life he had to live.
