Joan j. Guinovart winner of the 22nd prize of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy

Joan j. Guinovart has been awarded the 22nd prize of theRoyal Academy of Pharmacy(RAFC), in recognition of his important contribution to the field of pharmacy in Catalonia, as well as in Spain and the rest of the world. Guinovart, professor emeritus of the University of Barcelona, was the first director of the Institute for research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), from May 2005 until 2018, and is the head of the laboratory ofMetabolic engineering and diabetes therapythe same Institute located in the PCB.

Joan j. Guinovart, received the award during the opening ceremony of the academic year is organized by the Royal Academy of pharmacy in Catalonia yesterday afternoon at its headquarters in Barcelona.

"I consider myself very honored with this award that recognizes my career as a pharmacist. In fact, the IRB Barcelona is very pharmacist, in the sense that the research that is contributes to the development of new drugs, "said Joan j. Guinovart.

Guinovart, professor emeritus of the University of Barcelona, he was the first director of the Institute for research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) from 2005 until May of 2018, and is the head of the laboratory ofMetabolic engineering and diabetes therapyat the same Institute. His research interest focuses on the Glycogen metabolism, with special emphasis on their alterations in diabetes and the Lafora disease. He has published over 170 articles on this topic and has trained more than 40 predoctorat and postdoctoral students.

Has a number of prestigious awards such as the Diplôme d'honneur awarded by the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and the Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He is also Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universidad Andrés Bello, Santiago de Chile.
