JBIOCAT 2019

JBIOCAT 2019

The day of Biocatalysis (JBiocat 2019) is purpose to disseminate and exchange experiences between the different national groups working in basic and applied aspects of enzyme Biocatalysis: protein engineering, structural enzymology enzymatic biotransformation, immobilization of enzymes, and modeling and simulation of enzymatic processes. JBiocat 2019 aims to give continuity to the day of Biocatalysis, whose first version took place in the school of engineering biochemistry of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, in November of 2017. This time the event will take place at the University of Santiago de Chile and will be organized by academics from the host University, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, of the University of Chile, the Universidad de Talca, of the University of the Serena and the Universidad de Los Andes. Purpose of this day is continue facilitating collaborative research and the associativity of working groups, as well as the consolidation of a network of national collaboration in Biocatalysis.

HISTORY

The enzyme Biocatalysis is a projection area of biotechnology towards process engineering which increased importance in fields as important as the production of food, drugs and biofuels, environmental protection and the development of analysis and control devices. Notable advances in genetic engineering, protein engineering, materials engineering and Catalysis in heterogeneous phase and in non-conventional means of reaction, today allow to design robust and functional, applicable to one enzymatic catalysts wide range of chemical reactions of commercial relevance, with high efficiency and under principles of sustainable chemistry. Transcendence which the Biocatalysis has gained is very clearly reflected in the award of the Nobel Prize in chemistry 2018 Dr. Frances Arnold, Professor at the California Institute of Technology, for his work on directed evolution of enzymes. Research and development in Biocatalysis has expanded considerably now being present in numerous centers of research and training in our country, which makes timely and needed an event like JBiocat 2019 that serve as a forum for the Exchange of knowledge and experiences in pursuit of joint efforts towards an associative and collaborative research.
