Postgraduate course "BIOASSAYS applied to biomedical research: cell cultures, animal models and clinical trials"

Postgraduate course "BIOASSAYS applied to biomedical research: cell cultures, animal models and clinical trials"

Coordinators: Dr. Natalia Ceaglio - Dr. Marianela Masin

Institution: Laboratory of cell cultures. School of Biochemistry and life sciences. Universidad Nacional del Litoral.

address: University City. Paraje well. 242 CC. S3000ZAA. Santa Fe, Santa Fe Province, Argentina.

The course is aimed at professionals and graduate students who are working in the area of biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, and/or related areas that allow the application of the subject matter of the course.

Date and duration: The course will be held from 1 to 12 October 2018 in form of full-time (40 hours of classroom theory/workshops) and 40 hours of practical classes.

Objectives:

The overall objective of the course is to provide students with knowledge about the different bioassays used in biomedical research for the evaluation of biological activity both in vitro, through the use of cell cultures, such as in vivo mainly using animal models, as well as a brief introduction to the preclinical and clinical trials.

Through the development of more than 20 lectures, workshops and practicals, be introduced to students a wide variety of techniques, mainly based on cell cultures. The specific objectives it is intended to achieve with this course are as follows:

  • Describe the types of available bioassays currently and classify them according to their application, difficulty, cost, demand for equipment.
  • To provide tools for the design and implementation of the bioassay which best suits the particular needs of pupil cadan.
  • Develop a new bioassay, points critical to take into account in its implementation, validation.
  • Understand the use of bioassays to assess biological activity using animal models of traditional and non-traditional as well as in clinical trials.
  • Evaluate statistical methodologies for analysis of results that are more convenient for each system.
  • Learn about the implementation of biological trials during an industrial biotechnological process and ensure quality, processivity, and transfer them.

Closing of registration: Friday, September 14, 2018.

Vacancies: This course was approved by the Argentine Center of biotechnology (CABBIO) for this year, with a vacancy of 13 students who will be selected by the institution according to their scientific and academic background and work interests. Also, provides the supply of 7 additional vacancies for participation in classroom and 12 vacancies only for theoretical classes. For all these latest vacancies (19), additional to the CABBIO course, candidates will be selected by the coordinators taking into account the above aspects.
