Chile discovers key protein function in cancer understanding

Doctoral research project, which will be highlighted by the journal Nature Communications in the coming days, activated a collaboration between laboratories in six countries that allowed to generate this finding. Study described how the IRE1 protein is able to regulate the repair of DNA damage, one of the main causes of the progression and development of this pathology. The results can be a gateway to new therapeutic targets against the disease, says Claudio Hetz, director of the Institute of Biomedical Neuroscience.
