Francesca Burgos, Posdoctorada of Biochemistry, obtained prestigious PEW Fellowship for Latin American scholars in Biomedical Sciences

Francesca Burgos, was one of the 3 winners of Chile of l postdoctorada in biochemistry, recent winner of the award young talent in science of the life 2018toPEW FellowshipScholarship for Latin American researchers for postdoctoral stays in United States, highly competitive and prestigious. The other winners, in addition to the Chileans, come from Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.

The Pew Latin American Fellows program in the Biomedical Sciences provides support to young scientists giving them the opportunity to promote their scientific knowledge, promoting exchange and collaboration between researchers, resulting in advances in research in Latin America.

Each fellow will receive two years of funding to study in the United States with a principal investigator. Once the Fellowship, PEW offers additional funding to those fellows who return to Latin America to initiate their own laboratories. Approximately 70% of the previous winners has taken this initiative, and many of them currently, direct research efforts academics and scientists of great importance in their countries of origin.

Francesca Burgos, Ph.d., was sponsored by the laboratory of Carlos Bustamante, Ph.d. of the University of California (Berkeley). Dr. Burgos will examine how the linear RNA molecules are folded into a specific three-dimensional structure as they are created.
