Unique Teaching Opportunity for Graduate Student or PostDoc:
QB3 5-Day Lab Fundamentals Bootcamp for Undergrads
QB3 is hiring grad students or postdocs to teach a 5-day course, Lab Fundamentals Bootcamp. The Bootcamp is intended for undergraduates who have been accepted into summer research internship positions at UC Berkeley. The purpose of the course is to provide a comprehensive primer on the basics of microbiology and molecular biology, research methods, safety and human practices, experimental design, and demonstrations of basic techniques likely to be encountered in a molecular biology lab.
In collaboration, the instructors will review the curriculum and materials that have already been developed, make refinements as needed, and conceptualize and implement new materials. Additionally, the instructor will prepare the Stanley Hall teaching lab to ensure that required materials and reagents are in place.
The course will be taught in 3 sessions, from May 22-26, June 5-9, and June 19-23, 2016 at UC Berkeley to approximately 20 undergraduates.
Instructor qualifications: Applicants must have previous research experience in the field of microbiology or molecular biology, and must be cooperative and team-oriented. This is an ideal position for a postdoc or graduate student who is interested in an academic career at a primarily undergraduate college. Applicants must be currently enrolled or employed at a UC, and by accepting this position, applicants are confirming their availability and that their PI consents to their participation.
The instructor will receive a discretionary fund of $500 for each week taught that can be used for research- and training-related expenses.
